Timeline

What happens, and when

A typical plan for an intake about a year away. Every course and country is different — Orbit will tailor it to your student.

  1. 9–12 months before

    1.Explore together

    Talk about goals, subjects, budget and which countries fit. Book a counselling session with your student.

  2. 8–10 months before

    2.Prepare for tests

    Your student prepares for IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, SAT, GRE or GMAT as their course requires.

  3. 6–9 months before

    3.Apply

    Shortlist universities, gather documents and submit applications before each deadline.

  4. 3–6 months before

    4.Offers and finances

    Compare offers, confirm a place, and arrange funds or an education loan with a lender.

  5. 1–3 months before

    5.Visa

    Apply for the student visa with the required documents and prepare for any interview.

  6. Last weeks

    6.Departure

    Accommodation, travel, insurance and a plan for staying in touch.

Supporting your student abroad

Agree how you will stay in touch, keep copies of key documents at home, and make sure your student knows their university's support services and the contact details of the embassy.

Questions parents ask Orbit

Can Orbit guarantee admission, a scholarship or a visa?

No. Universities decide admission and scholarships, lenders decide loans, and governments decide visas. Orbit helps your family prepare honest, complete applications and understand each step.

Can we come to counselling together?

Yes — ask Orbit to arrange a session for you and your student, in person in Dillibazar or online.

How do we prove funds for the visa?

Each country sets its own rules and amounts. Our financial planning page lists the official figures Orbit has checked, with links to the government sources.

Does Orbit help with education loans?

Orbit offers financial guidance and bank-loan services to help you understand options and paperwork. Loan approval, amounts and interest rates are decided by the lender.

How will we know about rule changes?

Our visa updates page explains official changes in plain language, with the source and the date we last checked.
